• Shelly offered an approach to counselling that was unique from my previous experiences with counsellors. We began our relationship by setting goals. Our sessions were focused on achieving those goals by learning the skills I needed to recognize and identify emotions, and strategizing appropriate interventions. I felt like we made real progress with each successive session. Shelly also employed a client-driven approach that allowed me to suggest ways to tailor treatment to reduce discomfort and the likelihood that I would quit before achieving my goals. I didn't quit - a first for me - and I achieved my goals. Thank you Shelly. Erin R, 1-1 client, 2019

  • We brought Shelly to our school to work with teachers, students and their families. She is an outstanding coach, facilitator and source of knowledge, and helped our community to develop tools to tackle complex challenges kids encounter every day. I would not hesitate to recommend Shelly as a partner in learning and growth to everyone! Jennifer DeDominicis, Calgary Private School, 2019

  • Shelly is very kind and is very easy to open up to. I have done both couples counseling and individual sessions with her. I was able to learn so much more about myself and my partner. She is able to put things into different perspectives that you have never thought about which really helps you grow as a person and build your relationships. I really appreciate all of the help and support that Shelly has given me. Alex Oakenfold, 1-1 client, 2019

  • Before meeting Shelly I would have described myself as extremely anti-therapy, having seen my mothers mental health struggles spanning decades, with little to no benefit from it. Unfortunately I found myself in a place of desperation, knowing I needed to do something. I called a few different therapists, and she was the first one I felt like I connected with.

During our initial visit, I immediately felt as though she is someone I could truly open up to, which has always been a very large struggle for me. Not only is she an excellent listener, she has also given me very valuable tools and new ways of thinking that have helped me tremendously, and has truly gone above and beyond to help me. I feel like an actual person that matters, and she helps me to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. While I am still wary of many types of therapy, I think her knowledge and compassion set her far above what I had ever hoped to achieve. So thank you very much! J, 1-1 client, 2019

  • I attended Shelly's workshop for teachers on Friendship and Mindfulness and the intersection of the impacting factors we are seeing in our society and classroom with children around anxiety, depression, device use and suicide with children and teens. Her session was extremely informative, clear and concise! She had a great mix of brain science, examples, practice, and useful tools for us to take back to the classroom and implement. I would love for Shelly to come to our school to work more closely with teachers, students and parents. She has excellent knowledge with a fantastic mix of real life experiences she shared. Simon P, Calgary Board of Education teacher, 2019

  • Our kindergarten class had Shelly come in and do her Prickly Pear workshop, the kids loved it. As a teacher I found it was dynamic, relevant and held the students attention. It was well paced, interactive, reflective, simple and well told! Anonymous, Calgary Private School, Kindergarten teacher, 2019

  • I really liked Shelly’s Braving the Bully workshop! My mom suggested I go and it has really helped me to react to the Bullies and shut down the way they were treating me, thank you! A, 13 years old 1-1 client, 2019

  • Shelly is engaging for the children and they loved the Anxiety and Worry Monster workshop. We had her in to present the Prickly Pear workshop in 2017 and 2018 and it was fantastic as well. Her workshops are hands on and a hit with the kids! Crystal B, Calgary Board of Education Grade 4 / 5 teacher, 2019

  • My class LOVED Shelly’s Anxiety and Worry Monster workshop! It was creative, tangible, meaningful and relateable for the grade 4, 5, and 6 students. Kristen F, Calgary Private School Grade 4 / 5 /6 teacher, 2019

Her breadth of counselling, community, leadership, and teaching roles provide her with considerable insight, awareness, compassion, warmth and understanding. • My grade 4 class had Shelly attend this October to present her Fiercely Fabulous Friends, Prickly Pear workshop. The kids loved it and there were tons of hands up when she asked questions for engagement. I love the idea that Shelly talks to the kids about having “strong roots”, knowing and liking yourself and the reminder that it is good to play with a variety of people. It was so interesting to hear how the kids engaged and shared with Shelly, they made comments such as; friends can be selfish, they can pressure you, friends can make you feel bad. Sheldon S, Calgary Board of Education Grade 4 / 5 teacher, 2018

  • In my first session with Shelly, almost 2 Years ago, She put into words what other people had been trying to get across to me for 2 years. It finally clicked. That session alone changed my life. In the subsequent years, Shelly has continued to assist me through a very challenging period of my life - having my world as I knew it turned upside down and the things I identified with stripped away. She has helped me to embrace my journey and who I am rather than fear the future or beat myself up for perceived shortcomings. My sessions with Shelly have always been relaxed, fun and filled with 'aha moments'. Sessions rarely go the way I think they might, but that's the beauty of working with Shelly - She challenges my way of thinking and uses her unique insight to shift my perspective. Shelly is Very knowledgeable, experience and attentive. Always welcomes you with a smile. I would 100% recommend Shelly’s services to anyone - whether you are facing specific challenges or are just looking to make an already great life exceptional. Anonymous 1-1 client, 2018

  • Shelly presented the “Prickly Pear” workshop to my grade 4 / 5 class this October, it was amazing. The activities were interactive, the examples were easy for the children to relate and very well connected with the issues I hear in my class every day from students. It was great to hear how she described boundaries to the class and what makes good and not so good friends. My class was engaged and really enjoyed the session! Thank you Shelly. Brianna K, Calgary Board of Education Grade 4 / 5 teacher, 2018

  • Shelly's Fiercely Fabulous Friendships sessions for our students was very thorough and applicable for our students. She attended our class this May but we would definitely have her in earlier in the fall to talk about friendships. The children certainly struggle with their friendships everyday and Shelly has given them great tools to make good choices. CBE Grade 4 Teacher Team, 2018

  • Shelly came to my son’s school and presented her Fiercely Fabulous Friends presentation. He came home talking about some very unique and thought-provoking activities that they worked on. It gave us some great conversation starters about what true friends are and helped us talk through some issues he was having with some other children at school. Amanda M - 2018

  • Thank you for coming in and teaching to our program. Shelly is a strong facilitator with a great approach to the participants. We were lucky to have her. Christina B - Project Lead, The Alex, 2018

  • Shelly was prompt at replying and enthusiastic about our needs. At the presentation itself, she was bright, engaging, and friendly, she definitely has a stage presence that kept the room focused, and we liked that she asked us questions and made the attendees an active part of what Shelly was saying. More than anything else, the group of people who attended the talk benefited from feeling validated in their stressors. It also helped people to have the symptoms of burnout so clearly identified - it's far easier to navigate something that you can see, rather than feeling around in the dark. Overall, we feel that Shelly met all of our expectations for this presentation, and the attendees definitely benefited. Were we to get the chance, we would absolutely have Shelly back again. Jason K - President, Olds SA, 2017
